ANNAPOLIS, MD (September 18, 2008) -- Zenoss Inc., a leading provider of commercial open source application, systems, and network management software, today announced its global sponsorship of Software Freedom Day, a worldwide celebration of Free and Open Source Software (FOSS). Zenoss will join technology leaders Sun, Google, and Canonical along with volunteers comprised of over 600 teams in 80 countries on September 20, 2008, to help raise awareness of the virtues of free software and encourage its use. This is the second consecutive year that Zenoss has provided support for the event...

"Zenoss is committed to supporting the open source community and to helping spread the adoption of open source software," said Zenoss vice president of community, Mark Hinkle. "We see first hand the positive impact our software has on businesses, government, and educational institutions around the world and want to participate in the growth and evangelism of open source software. As a sponsor of Software Freedom Day 2008 we hope to further expose software users and developers to the benefits of transparent, collaborative software development."

"Software Freedom is about creating a digital platform for trust and longevity, particularly in a future where more and more of our lives are dependent upon technology," said Pia Waugh, president of Software Freedom International, the organization behind Software Freedom Day. "Participating and trusting in the software we use makes Software Freedom Day a driving force to draw attention to the importance of open source technology. By reaching a broad audience and fostering a general understanding of software freedom, we hope to encourage increased adoption of free software and open standards. We appreciate the collaboration and support on this effort from leading visionary technology companies like Zenoss."

Zenoss, an active developer of Zenoss Core, an open source network monitoring solution, will be encouraging its community to help promote the use of open source systems management software in recognition of the event. Zenoss supports RRDTool and MRTG as a gold sponsor and is a founding sponsor of the Twisted project, an event-driven networking engine written in Python.

Zenoss employees will be participating at local events in Austin, TX along with the Austin Linux User's Group and the Austin Ubuntu Team. To help promote open source software and SFD, please visit: www.zenoss.com/sfd/.
