Experimentus Addresses the Current State of Testing Certifications

Geoff Thompson, Director at Experimentus, a leading UK software quality management consultancy, joins fellow software quality experts at today’s London SQC Conference to discuss:
• Certification and testing
• The planned future directions of certification
• Test certification bodies
• What certifications outside of testing are recommended for testers

The Software and Systems Quality Conference (‘SQC’), at London’s QE11 Conference Centre in Westminster is one of Europe’s leading international conferences on software quality management, testing and process optimisation. This year’s conference will focus on the role of testing in improving productivity and will consist of various presentations, experience reports, tutorials and round table discussions.

As UK Testing Board Chair and UK ISTQB representative, Geoff Thompson, will participate in the Round Table discussion on certification and testing. Mr Thompson will highlight the various software testing certification schemes currently available across the world including the ISTQB syllabi which he is directly involved in managing and formulating. To date over 90,000 IT professionals hold the Foundation exam. Mr Thompson will be addressing the current state of test certifications, the desired future state of test certifications, if there is a need for alternative certification approaches and what they might be.

Mr Thompson wants the IT industry to understand the importance of test certification and how: “Certification is a necessary step in growing a profession. The ISTQB Foundation exam is equivalent to a GCSE, and the Advanced Practitioner to an A Level. So, IT students should know this before they leave school!”
